      boss Laurent Blanc has confirmed that Mikael Silvestre is staying with Manchester United.

      The Girondins coach wanted to bring his former United team-mate to the club this summer in a bid to add experience to his backline.

      However, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has already admitted that the 30-year-old's salary is an issue and Blanc has also waved the white flag in the chase for the ex-Inter defender.

      "Mikael Silvestre? It's finished," Blanc told a press conference.

      "He has decided to stay in Manchester for his last season,"

      Silvestre is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford but, after becoming a bit-part player, partly due to injury, it was suspected that he could have been lured away from the European champions.
